Objective -
This article aims to preliminarily examine and summarize the impact of COVID-19 on airline business and to briefly investigate how the airlines respond.
Methodology/Technique -
The researchers synthesize data and information collected from industry organizations' reports and related academic literature. A traditional narrative literature review was implemented to examine and summarize the impacts of COVID-19 on the airline business.
Findings -
The results show that COVID-19 has operational, market, and financial impacts on airline business. In response to the COVID-19 situation, the airlines have updated their operational procedures and searched for alternative revenue streams. The authors also provide suggestions for future research.
Novelty -
COVID-19 is an emerging infectious disease. Very few scholars have conducted studies on the impacts of COVID-19 on airline business. This article contributes to the academic literature by categorizing the impacts of COVID-19 on airline business. Future studies can further investigate the impacts of COVID-19 on airline business using this article as a starting point.
